herbal-oil

There’s something so magical about growing your own garden, right? Even if it’s just a few pots of herbs. No, let me rephrase that—especially if it’s a few pots of herbs! Why? Because herbs are some of the most versatile and rewarding plants that you can grow. You can use them for your meals and also for some exciting DIY beauty products. Just picture the joy of plucking fresh herbs from your own backyard and turning them into homemade beauty products. It’s an amazing way to commune with nature while elevating your self-care routine. To give you some ideas, here are some of our favorite recipes for beauty products from homegrown herbs.

Herbal Infused Oil

Herbal-infused oils are a wonderful way to harness the benefits of your homegrown herbs for skincare. Begin by selecting a carrier oil like olive oil or almond oil, and then collect a handful of fresh herbs from your garden. These herbs can include rosemary, lavender, or calendula. After washing and drying the herbs, chop or crush them and place them in a glass jar. Warm the chosen carrier oil until it’s just warm (but not boiling) and pour it over the herbs. Seal the jar and position it in a sunny location for 2-4 weeks, shaking it daily. Once ready, strain the oil and store it in a dark glass bottle. This infused oil can be used for massage or as an ingredient in various skincare recipes.

Face Mask

Creating a homemade herbal face mask is a fun and easy way to nourish and revitalize your skin. To begin, take 2 tablespoons of fresh herbs such as mint, basil, or parsley. Blend or finely chop these herbs and then mix them with a carrier oil, such as jojoba oil, to create a paste. Applying this mask to your face, leave it on for 15–20 minutes before rinsing with warm water. The natural properties of the herbs combined with the moisturizing qualities of jojoba oil will leave your skin feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.

Hair Rinse

Homegrown herbs can also benefit your hair. For a herbal hair rinse, gather 1–2 tablespoons of fresh herbs such as rosemary, lavender, or chamomile. Place these herbs in a heatproof bowl and then pour 2 cups of boiling water over them. Allow the mixture to steep until it cools down. Once cooled, strain the liquid and use it as a final hair rinse after shampooing. Herbal rinses are an amazing way to care for both your scalp and hair. They will not only add shine but also promote healthy hair growth and prevent excess shedding.

Bath Salts

Did you know that you can even create your own herbal bath salts? All you’ll need is 1 cup of Epsom salt or sea salt, 2-3 tablespoons of dried herbs (lavender, rose petals, chamomile), and optionally, 10-15 drops of essential oil for fragrance. Mix the salt and dried herbs in a bowl, and if you desire a specific scent, add the essential oil. Store this mixture in a sealed container. When you’re ready to enjoy a relaxing bath, simply add a few tablespoons of herbal bath salts to your bathwater. The salts will not only relax your body and mind, but the scent will also make you feel like you’re in a spa.
